Demeara Hinds came to play for Hoop Dreams Athletics when she was a freshman in high school. She had been player soccer all of her life, and that was the sport that she loved. She was athletic but she could not dribble nor shoot, and she had no understanding of the game of basketball. Hoop Dreams Athletics Director, Coach Dorian Williams, saw her playing in a high school basketball game. He realized immediately that Demeara was long and extremely athletic, but she was raw and had no basketball IQ. He loved her size and how well she ran the floor, so he found out who her mother was and approached her. He informed her mother that he could develop Demeara and he promised that if she listened that would go BIG TIME. Of course, her mother found this unbelievable because she was only playing to have something to do (she was waiting for soccer season). Well clearly coach Dorian Williams knew what he was taking about. He did an amazing job of taking a soccer star and turning her into a basketball star. When she graduated high school, she received a full scholarship to play for Wake Forest University. And once she graduated from Wake Forest University, Coach Williams assisted her as she transferred and is now the starting Power Forward for Clemson Women’s Basketball.
